David C. Schober, 70, of Tomah, died Friday, April 13, 2012 at his home. He was born June 11, 1941 to Casper and Isabel (Shaw) Schober at Sparta, WI. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sparta. He was united in marriage to Jeannette Good August 26, 1961 at St. Patrick’s Parish in Sparta. He was a US Marine Corps Veteran. David worked as a nursing assistant at the Veterans Administration Hospital, retiring under the C.S.R.S. System in 1999. While he was employed at the VA he received several outstanding and superior awards for his work. He was a member of the North American Hunting Club, the NRA, and Ducks Unlimited. He loved being in the outdoors, especially duck hunting, turkey hunting and trout fishing. He owned several black labs and golden retrievers. He and Jan enjoyed travelling, and they went trout fishing in Yellowstone National Park. He enjoyed working with his hands shooting-archery, and doing carpentry. He had a big heart who would help anyone. He is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Jeannette , a son David (Tammy Mathews) of Red Wing, MN and a daughter Dawn (her fiancé Eugene Travis) of Brighton, 2 sisters Patricia (Jim) Kotten of Arizona, and Joyce (Cletus) Kotten of Finley, OH, 4 sisters-in-law Virginia (Keith) Strait of Sparta, Linda Mattison of Onalaska, Carol Starks and Diana Starks both of Van Buren, MO, 3 brothers-in-law Richard Schendel of Reedsburg, Raymond Schendel of Baraboo, and David Good of La Crosse,many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Tomah. Monsignor Richard W. Gilles will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, Tomah and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 A.M. until time of the mass.
